This place is one of the most popular among all local and foreign tourists coming to the country for climbing the Carpathians. This is Synevir Lake, the deepest and biggest in its area mountain lake in Ukraine. The dwellers name it "The Carpathians Eye".

Lake Synevir is situated in west Ukraine in one of the most highland part of Transcarpathian region not far from Synevyr Glade village at an altitude of 1000 m above sea level in an old forest.

It's said by scientists to have karst origin and as the locals say has no bottom. And such talks are partially true. In the Synevir there are a lot of underwater caves and holes which let the mountain water sources fulfill the lake. Its age starts at the postglacial period.

An interesting fact is that Synevir doesn't have a steady shape because of different water level due to the season so you may not see it the same as before. Also, you can hear plenty of scaring or romantic legends thought up by Ukrainian mountaineers.

To get to the lake is an easy deal. Touristic groups are constantly hauled there from all Carpathian towns and villages. The price for a local taxi service is rather low as well. And at the foot of the place you'll be offered a horse ride or even a carriage trip.
